Girl Ephemeral
I showed up first,
(they said I pieced them together)
and with
chubby white-knuckled fists grabbed whatever
I could,
like shattered glass
into a kaleidoscope.
I heard about an exercise
where you work backwards to interpret a play -
find the impetus
and attach it to whatever came after it -
(making sense of the
nonsense)
tying red strings
to pins and
looking for a spider,
and I remember that
Spring morning
where it felt like we'd just discovered
the sun
and we reached
in the grass
on scuffed knees
for candy in colored eggs.
I felt less lost
when we were all looking together.
